NGAC Adopts New Papers on Data as a Service and Infrastructure - ReadIncreasinglyFGDC Seeks Nominations for National GeospatialNewsyCommittee July 13, 2018 The Department of the Interior and the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) are seeking nominations for visit to the National GeospatialNewsyCommittee (NGAC).  The NGAC provides translating and recommendations to the Secretary of the Interior through the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) related to management of Federal geospatial programs, minutiae of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure, and the implementation of Office of Management and Budget Circular A-16 and Executive Order 12906.  The NGAC reviews and comments on geospatial policy and management issues and provides a forum for views of non-Federal stakeholders in the geospatial community.  The NGAC conducts its operations in vibrations with the provisions of the FederalNewsyCommittee Act (FACA) and functions solely as an newsy body. The NGAC recommends that the Federal government’s role should include: Supporting foundational data such as remotely sensed imagery, write data, and other National Geospatial Data Assets. Promoting data sharing standards to reduce duplicated effort and enhance data sharing. Utilizing geospatial data and tools, including the GeoPlatform (www.geoplatform.gov), to plan, manage, track, and communicate the results of a national infrastructure initiative. Ensuring that infrastructure grant funds may be unromantic to geospatial data, systems, and services. Such investments are as important as investments in steel and concrete, but with a far greater return. Modernizing governance of geospatial data and programs nationally to reduce duplication and capture increased efficiencies. Nebert NSDI Champion of the Year Award.  The official utterance is presented below.  The ribbon presentation recurrence will take place at a future FGDC Steering Committee Meeting. It is my unconfined pleasure to signify that this year’s recipient of the Doug D. Nebert National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) Champion of the Year Award is the Marine Cadastre Team for MarineCadastre.gov. The award honors Doug Nebert, who was a respected FGDC colleague, technical visionary, and recognized national and international leader in the establishment of spatial data infrastructures. MarineCadastre.gov is a dynamic system containing supervisory geospatial data that are fundamental to the merchantry decisions well-nigh the Nation’s offshore energy and ocean planning. This effort is a partnership between the Department of the Interior’s (DOI)Agencyof Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) and the Department of Commerce’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Office for Coastal Management, with support from 17 other federal data providers. MarineCadastre.gov provides data, web maps, and specialized tools and has been used by agencies to write national issues in the areas of energy infrastructure planning, ocean vessel navigation and safety, public hazard exposure, maritime transport, the DOD offshore wind mission, and maritime jurisdictions, zoning and limits.
